Tripura Police constable, 5 others arrested for embezzling Rs 25.60 lakh

A police constable and five other staff members associated with the Unakoti Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanta Jangir’s office in Tripura, have been arrested on charges of embezzling Rs 25.60 lakh, according to SP Jangir.
The embezzlement case was brought to light during an audit on September 2 conducted by the District Magistrate and Collector of Unakoti district. Reportedly, departmental investigation carried out by a high-level committee uncovered that the six employees collectively overdrew a total of Rs 25,60,000.
Following these findings, an FIR was filed against the accused by the Drawing and Disbursing officer in the SP’s office at Kailasehar police station. The six accused were arrested based on the FIR and presented before the local court of Kailashahar. They have been remanded to judicial custody while the investigation continues.
