Tripura: Jawan kills self in Agartala police HQ

A 38-year-old Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan shot himself with his service weapon at the police headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Bijan Karmakar.
A 38-year-old Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan shot himself with his service weapon at the police headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Bijan Karmakar.
Karmakar, a trooper of the 1st battalion of the TSR joined the squad responsible for managing security of the police headquarters on February 14 last.
The jawan hailed from Fatikroy area of Unokoti district in North Tripura.
A senior police official said the deceased shot himself using his service weapon at around 8 PM. The incident occurred minutes before he was to report for duty with his colleagues who heard a gunshot and found him dead leaning on his bed inside the barrack.
Meanwhile, the reason of the jawan’s suicide is yet to be ascertained.
