Tripura CM’s Durga Puja gift for state people: CM Saha distributes essentials to celebrate the festivity

With the onset of the festive season and in a significant move to provide essential items to the people before Durga Puja, the Tripura Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs department commenced the distribution of mustard oil from today.

The distribution of mustard oil through the Public Distribution System was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha, in the presence of Mayor of Agartala Dipak Majumder, Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and other dignitaries at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.

During the event, the Chief Minister Manik Saha also launched the distribution of free canvas bags, alongside other ration items, as part of the Durga Puja festivities.

“In a step towards fulfilling the basic needs of the people, today launched distribution of mustard oil through PDS at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala. Also inaugurated distribution of free Canvas Bag with other ration items among the consumers to mark Durga Puja.Our government is committed to strengthening the PDS & making it more accessible to the people,” tweeted CM Saha.

In an effort to transform 600 fair price shops in the state into model ration shops, CM Saha also handed over cheques for Rs. 5000 to a few ration dealers.

As decided by the Government for giving ex-gratia of Rs. 2000 to 635 labourers engaged under the Food Dept for Durga Puja, handed over cheques to a few labourers as a token.

Chief Minister Manik Saha presented ‘Durga Puja gift hamper bags’ containing mustard oil, rice, sugar, semolina or rawa, and flour. This marked the inauguration of the distribution of edible oil through fair price shops in the state for the first time.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the BJP-IPFT government’s commitment to strengthening the PDS, enhancing its accessibility, ensuring transparency in the system, and controlling inflation through rationing.

Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced that the state government has decided to provide one liter of mustard oil, one kilogram of lentil pulses, two kilograms of flour, one kilogram of sugar, and 500 grams of rava and atta in a canvas bag to all ration cardholders through 2056 fair price shops across the state. The initiative serves as a special subsidized gift for the festive season ahead of Durga Puja.

Notably, consumers will receive mustard oil at a cost of Rs. 113 per liter, marking the first time such an offering has been made in the state. The food department is contributing an additional subsidy of Rs. 15, and approximately nine lakh biodegradable canvas bags will be provided free of charge, further promoting sustainability.
