Amid escalating political tensions, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday rejected accusations of large-scale financial corruption leveled by the opposition, asserting that his government remains transparent and clean.

Saha’s defense came during the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected members of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, held at Agartala Town Hall.

Opposition parties, including the CPI (M) and Congress, have recently accused several BJP leaders, including a state minister and a senior official in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), of involvement in financial corruption.

However, Saha strongly dismissed these claims, stating, “Many people may bring various allegations, but ours is a very clean government. Similarly, our Panchayats, Municipalities, the Agartala Municipal Corporation, and all Nagar Panchayats are working with full transparency.”

The Chief Minister also used the platform to caution newly elected representatives and other officials to avoid any form of misconduct or financial irregularities.

“Since the people have given us the opportunity to serve, we must utilize it fully to meet their expectations. The role of elected representatives at the grassroots level is critical, as they are the ones directly connected to the common people,” Saha said.

He emphasized that the functioning of the Panchayats is key to executing development schemes initiated by both the central and state governments.

Highlighting the effectiveness of Tripura’s three-tier Panchayat system, Saha noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have both appreciated the state’s efforts.

“Recently, a Panchayat member from Tripura was invited to the U.S. to speak on how Panchayats function here, and was highly praised for the state’s achievements,” he added.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, and several other dignitaries attended the event.

The corruption allegations made by the opposition have been gaining momentum in recent weeks.
During the recently concluded Tripura Legislative Assembly session, Congress MLA and senior leader raised serious accusations against Minister Bikash Debbarma and the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister, claiming their involvement in financial irregularities. The CPI(M), the principal opposition party, has supported these claims, demanding thorough investigations.

Meantime, ruling BJP alliance partner TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma had also demanded the Chief Minister declare a probe into the Opposition allegations.

Despite the mounting pressure, Saha remains firm, urging all government officials and elected representatives to maintain the highest standards of integrity. His speech is seen as a strategic move to counter opposition claims and reassure the public of the government’s commitment to transparency.
