Tripura by-polls: People have sent out a message against appeasement politics, says CM Manik Saha

CM Saha without naming any party said that divide and rule policy was prevalent in the past in both the seats, especially Boxanagar
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha today thanked the people of Boxanagar and Dhanpur constituencies for choosing the BJP as the best choice in the by-polls to the 2 constituencies for which results were declared today.
Briefing media, Chief Minister Saha said that the voters especially in the Boxanagar seat have sent out a loud and clear message against appeasement politics.
Without naming any party, the Tripura Chief Minister said, “Boxanagar is dominated by the minorities. Until today appeasement politics is what was prevalent in Boxanagar, but people in the constituency have sent out a clear message against the divide and rule policy. It was done by appeasing a certain section of the society for the purpose of creating a vote bank.”
The Tripura Chief Minister added, “This shows that people in minority dominated Boxanagar have reposed faith on PM Modi’s leadership for his vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Biswash aur Prayaas’ due to which our candidate Tafajjul Hussain could register a landslide victory. Similarly people have blessed our candidate, Bindu Debnath in Dhanpur and he could seal victory.”
Chief Minister Manik Saha also reacted to CPI-M’s statements saying that had there been peaceful elections, the Left could have put up a good show. Saha regarding this said, “I have visited Boxanagar and Dhanpur multiple times before the elections, I have never seen any kind of disturbance as I addressed multiple rallies. I did not even see any sign that indicates about any probability of violence. Now it is understood that they are losing ground. They are repeating the same old thing. The by-polls were conducted even more smoothly than the 2023 assembly elections. We do politics only for the purpose of welfare, development and nothing else.”
On the other hand, Tripura CPI-M secretary, Jitendra Chowdhury questioned as to how the BJP could secure victory in the Boxanagar seat by such a big margin when the CPIM candidate had won the seat 6 months ago by a margin of over 5000 votes. Chowdhury wondered as to how only just over 3000 votes was casted in favour of the party candidate in the by-polls.
“Do you believe, how can this happen?,” the CPIM leader asked.
Chowdhury alleged, “had the ruling BJP not crippled the entire administrative machinery and if there was free, fair voting the Left would have performed much better than the last assembly elections.”
