The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura or IPFT which is a coalition partner of the BJP in Tripura, held a crucial meeting on January 9th to revive its demand for a separate tribal state ‘Tipraland’.

The meeting was convened at the Agartala Press Club and was presided over by IPFT general secretary Mewar Kumar Jamatia.

Speaking to Northeast Live after the meeting, IPFT spokesperson Mangal Debbarma said that the demand for Tipraland has remained one of the core demands of the party.

Debbarma added that since 2019 party leaders have been making concerted efforts to raise the issue before the centre. In this regard, Debbarma said, a memorandum was submitted to PM Narendra Modi during his visit to Agartala on January 4 wherein the party had once again put forth their demand for Tipraland along with other local issues, for the development of the indigenous people of the state.

The IPFT and TIPRA Motha had jointly staged protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to push for the demand of Greater Tipraland.
