The Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance or TIPRA headed by Tripura Royal Scion Pradyot Deb Barman has created history by emerging victorious and is set to form the council with an absolute majority in the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, results of which are yet to be announced formally.
Till the time of filing report, Deb Barman confirmed having won 15 of the 28 elective seats in the 30 member council. Two candidates are nominees of the state governor.
According to sources in the state election commission, the party has a decisive lead on 18 of the 28 seats.
Meanwhile, Pradyot Deb Barman upon the request of many people asking for votes share took to twitter to reveal the figures received by the new regional party from his seat in Takarjala-Jampuijala.
“Many people asking me for the votes share from my seat in Takarjala/Jampuijala well here it is – TIPRA 13461 IPFT/BJP 2768 CPIM 426 NOTA 226 CONG 221. I extend my commiseration to all the opponents,” Pradyot tweeted.
Counting for the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council election began today from 7:30 am amid tight security. A total of 16 counting centers were set up to decide the faith of 30 contestants.
Elections were held in 28 seats in the 30-member TTAADC on April 6. Two other members will be nominated by the Governor on the advice of State government.
The elections held across 28 elected seats of the 30 member-council, was mainly contested between opposition CPIM, which was in power in the ADC for the last four terms, and the ruling BJP-IPFT alliance, and the TIPRA – a new alliance of most indigenous parties of Tripura headed by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.
TTAADC covers two-thirds of the state’s land. The indigenous tribal people are considered a strong political force in Tripura as they form one-third of the state”s total estimated 40 lakh population.
