Tinsukia firing: Assam govt announces Rs 5 lakh compensation for kin of victims

The Assam government has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation each for the kin of the victims of Tinsukia firing incident. This was informed by Assam Water Resource Minister Keshav Mahanta.

Earlier, Assam Ministers Keshav Mahanta, Parimal Suklabaidya and Tapan Gogoi called on the family members of the victims of Dhola firing incident.

As many as five people were gunned down by suspected ULFA-Independent cadres at Kherbari village under Dhola police station in Tinsukia district last evening.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia was also at the spot to take stock of the situation.

Tension gripped Assam’s Tinsukia after the killing of 5 people leading to widespread protests in the district.

The All Assam Bengali Yuba Chhatra Federation called for a 24-hour shutdown following the gruesome attack last evening. The shutdown started from 5 this morning.

The ULFA-Independent, meanwhile, has denied its involvement in the incident. In an emailed communique the outfit categorically denied its involvement in the Tinsukia firing

Meanwhile Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the killings in Tinsukia and said he has asked Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to ensure strictest punishment is met out to the perpetrators of the cowardly act.
