President of India Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Sunil Arora as the new Chief Election Commissioner, who will be assuming office from December 2.

It may be mentioned here, Arora has been inducted to the Chief Election Commissioner’s post after he was appointed to the Election Commission in September 2017 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of former CEC Nasim Zaidi.

Significantly, Arora, who is a 1980 batch IAS officer, had served as the Secretary in the Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

He had also served as the joint secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation from 1999 to 2002 and worked as chief managing director of the Indian Airlines for five years.
