Locals of Pasighat in East Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh were seen in a celebratory mood as Governor BD Mishra unveiled the idol of ‘Golgi Bote’ Talom Rukbo.
Delegates poured in from all the districts of Arunachal Pradesh and some parts of Assam as well to witness the unveiling of the 20 feet tall statue of the popular adivasi leader.
Talom Rukbo was the father of Donyi-Polo, a revivalist religious movement based in Arunachal Pradesh which attempts to reconstruct Tani or Adi animist spirituality.
He had criticised Christian missionaries for fraudulent conversion practices in the Northeast of India.
Because of his contributions to the Adivasi way of life, Rukbo has been named as one of the inspirations of the Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram Project run by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak.
