SKM releases list of candidates for Assembly polls, lone LS seat in Sikkim

CM Tamang to contest from 2 Assembly seats. The list includes 3 sitting MLAs from BJP who had resigned from the party and joined SKM.

The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha on Monday released its full list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls and the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim.

Names of candidates for all 32 seats have been declared. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will be contesting from two seats – Soreng and Rhenock.

Dr. Indra Hang Subba has been nominated as the SKM’s candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state.

The list includes 3 sitting MLAs from the BJP who had resigned from the Party yesterday and joined SKM.
Yangang Rangang MLA Rajkumari Thapa, Dzongu MLA Pinsto Namgyal Lepcha and Martam Rumtek MLA Sonam Venchungpa have all resigned from the BJP yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the list of 14 candidates who will be contesting for the 32 seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.

In addition to the Assembly candidates, the BJP also revealed its choice for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim. The party has fielded Dinesh Chandra Nepal, a former bureaucrat in the Sikkim Government, as the party’s candidate for this seat.

Among the 14 candidates for the 2024 assembly elections, the BJP has retained two sitting legislators.
