In a major political development in Sikkim, the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has forged an alliance with BJP for the upcoming by-polls in the three constituencies of Gangtok, Rumtek-Martam and Poklok-Kamrang.
As per the alliance, SKM will not field their candidate for the Gangtok, Rumtek-Martam seats and support the BJP candidate.
In turn, BJP will not field their candidate for the Poklok-Kamrang seat and support the SKM candidate for this seat.
Justifying its move to enter into an alliance with the BJP, SKM said it has done so to fulfill long pending political demands like tribal status to Limbo Tayang community and schedule tribe status to 11 left out communities.
