Sikkim’s Marathon Girl Phurba Tamang secures podium finish in New Delhi Marathon

Tamang crossed the 42.2 Kms finish line with a commendable time of 3 hours 15 minutes 59 seconds, improving her personal best by 7 minutes.

In a proud moment for Sikkim, Phurba Tamang, known as the Marathon Girl of Sikkim, achieved a remarkable feature by clinching the third position in the Women’s Open Category of the 9th Edition of the Apollo Tyres New Delhi Marathon.

Tamang crossed the 42.2 Kms finish line with a commendable time of 3 hours 15 minutes 59 seconds, improving her personal best by 7 minutes. Additionally, she excelled in her age category, securing the second position.

The New Delhi Marathon, which was held under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India, saw thousands of participants from more than 20,000 individuals across 200 cities, 27 states and several countries in different categories.

Themed “Go The Distance,” the event embodied the spirit of resilience and determination, emphasizing the triumph over challenges with unwavering positivity.

This prestigious national championship event also serves as a significant qualifier for the Paris Olympics, underscoring its global importance in the athletics community. This marathon is certified by AIMS Association of International Marathon and distance Races under the Aegis of AFI Athletic Federation of India.
