First Published: 19th October, 2024 14:17 IST
The medical negligence has sparked outrage among the public, with calls for stricter accountability and reforms in the state’s healthcare system.
In a shocking case of absolute medical negligence, a woman has been living with a pair of surgical scissors in her tummy for 12 years.
Way back in 2012, the lady had gone to the STNM hospital in Gangtok, Sikkim, to get her appendix removed. After the surgery, she went back home, but she continued to complain of pain in her abdomen.
Earlier this month, her husband brought her back to the STNM hospital as she was suffering from excruciating pain. To the utter shock and horror of the doctors attending to her, they saw a pair of surgical scissors inside the lady’s tummy in the X-ray done.
The lady underwent major surgery on October 8 and got the scissors removed. She is said to be out of danger now.
Authorities are now investigating the case, and the incident has sparked discussions about the need for stringent checks during and after surgeries to prevent such avoidable errors which threaten a person’s life.
