Sikkim: Several leaders join SKM ahead of Assembly polls

CM Tamang said SKM has been further strengthened by the addition of the new individuals to the party.
In a big boost to the ruling SKM ahead of the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Sikkim, as many as 8 opposition leaders, 6 from the CAP and 2 from the SDF, have joined ruling party in the presence of SKM President and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Saturday.
Announcing the development on social media, Prem Singh Tamang welcomed the new members to the party.
CM Tamang said SKM has been further strengthened by the addition of the new individuals to the party.
The opposition leaders who joined SKM include CAP Vice Presidents Laxmi Bhattarai, Damber Chamling; CAP District Vice Presidents Dinesh Gurung and Basant Bista; CAP General Secretary N.L Guragain and party leader Sonam D Bhutia.
Besides, SDF General Secretary of Organization C.L Sharma and party leader Dawcho Lepcha have also joined the SKM.
Earlier on Friday, former working president of the Citizen Action Party, D B Chauhan who had recently resigned from the party, citing differences of opinion with other party members, has joined the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha.
Chauhan announced his decision to join the SKM on Friday.
With Chauhan, two more leaders, NK Pradhan, Vice President CEC (CAP), and Bharat Rai, a member of the SDF party also joins SKM.
Taking to Twitter, SKM chief Prem Singh Tamang wrote, “I am delighted to welcome Shri D.B Chauhan, former Working President (CAP), Shri NK Pradhan, Vice President CEC (CAP), and Shri Bharat Rai, a prominent member of the SDF party, to our SKM family. Their expertise and experience will undoubtedly enrich our party’s endeavors and collectively contribute to our party’s vision for the progress and prosperity of our beloved state.”
Earlier, D B Chauhan had also served two terms as the president of the BJP, he had resigned from the BJP over internal fights and dissention.
Chauhan had resigned from the CAP over disagreement with party members on the selection of party president Bharat Basnet as the party’s Lok Sabha candidate.
