A waste recycling mission started by the Gor Secondary school of Lower Dzongu in North Sikkim has been successful in keeping not only the school campus litter-free, but the surrounding villages as well.
Started under the guidance of Headmistress Tseten Lhamu Lepcha, the school initiated the mission of recycling plastic wastes like water bottles, wrappers, tyres, turning them into new usable products.
Students were taught to make decorative products during their extracurricular activity, including flower vase, rest house, button flowers, souvenir, carry bags and fencing from the waste. The mission was successful not only in turning the school compound clean and litter free but also the surrounding villages as well.
The school has also initiated organic farming during their extracurricular activity and the money acquired by selling the produces were utilized in developing the school infrastructure.
