Sikkim pays rich tributes to Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya

Sikkim Chief Minister and the dignitaries also offered their tribute to the eminent scholar by garlanding the statue.

The first part of the state-level celebration of the 208th Bhanu Jayanti began with the garlanding of the statue of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Bhanu Udhyan in Gangtok on Wednesday.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the occasion as the chief guest.

Organised by the Celebration Committee under Nepali Sahitya Parishad and presided over by Minister BS Panth, the function saw the participation of the Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, MP Lok Sabha and a host of other dignitaries.

An added feature of the Celebration was the re-developed Bhanu Udhyan, which was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today.

The entire complex around the life-size statue of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya was remodelled and beautified with a permanent roof and other aesthetics with a large seating capacity. The work was executed by the Building and Housing Department.

A maple tree and other ornamental plants in the complex added to the beauty of the place. The Chief Minister also planted a sapling of a Maple tree near the statue to mark the occasion.

The Chief Minister and the dignitaries also offered their tribute to the eminent scholar by garlanding the statue.

On the occasion, the Chairman of the Celebration Committee and other Members presented a Memento to the Chief Minister as a token of respect.

An added attraction of the programme was the enthusiastic participation of an all-women troupe from Jhapa Nepal who played the ‘Naumati Baja’.

After the programme at Bhanu Udhyan, the Chief Minister, dignitaries and invitees participated in the ‘Shobha Yatra’ which began from Bhanu Udhyan, through the Zero Point – Tibet Road route and culminated at Titanic Park in MG Marg.

The ‘Shobha Yatra’ comprised of a cultural tableau depicting the day’s theme, which was participated by students and members of various communities, associations and organizations.
