Sikkim’s Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba raised the issue of including 12 communities of the state in the ST list. Communities seeking ST status in Sikkim includes Gurung, Mangar, Rai, Sunwar, Mukhia, Jogi, Thami, Yakha, Bahun, Chettri, Newar, and Majhis. The MP also sought steps be taken to preserve and promote the different languages and dialects of the state.
