Sikkim: Minor pregnant after being sexually assaulted by her tenant

The matter came to light after the family she lives with, got suspicious and had her tested for pregnancy

In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl got pregnant after being sexually assaulted by her tenant in Temi, South Sikkim.

Police said that the girl lives with her local guardian in Temi and studies at a local Government School.

The matter came to light after the family with whom she lives got suspicious and had her tested for pregnancy. After examination, doctors informed them that the girl is two weeks pregnant.

The victim girl told the family that Azam Siddique who was a tenant in their residence allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Later, the family filed an First Information Report (FIR) in the Temi Police Station.

In response to the FIR, police launched an investigation and successfully managed to nab the accused boy from Lower Tanak.

A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act 2012 has been registered against the accused.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
