Sikkim Implements Mandatory Tenant Verification, DGP Clarifies Process Amid Public Confusion

First Published: 11th February, 2025 20:59 IST

DGP Sachdeva stated that the initiative is crucial due to Sikkim’s border sensitivity and national security concerns.

Following the implementation of mandatory labour verification, the Sikkim government has now made tenant verification compulsory. The move led to some confusion, prompting Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva to clarify its purpose.

DGP Sachdeva stated that the initiative is crucial due to Sikkim’s border sensitivity and national security concerns. He assured the public that individuals holding specific documents—Sikkim Subject Certificate, Certificate of Identification (CoI), Residential Certificate, Sikkim Land Parcha, or Sikkim Voter Identity Card are exempt from visiting the police station for verification.

Authorities urge compliance to ensure security and smooth implementation.

Earlier yesterday, the Sikkim government made labour card registration mandatory for all workers in hotels, shops, and construction sites under the Labour Regulations of Employment Conditions of Services 2021.
