Sikkim: Fmr Minister and SDF leader Tilu Gurung, 14 others quit party, join SKM

With just a few days left for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the political landscape in Sikkim is changing fast as the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) which is looking at ousting ruling SKM is witnessing resignations of its leaders and joining SKM.
The party today suffered a big blow after former minister and a founder member of SDF party, Tilu Gurung and 14 others resigned from the party and joined the SKM.
They have joined the SKM, emphasizing their belief in Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s strong leadership and the remarkable progress made in the Himalayan state under his leadership.
Reacting to the mass exodus from the SDF, SKM Spokesperson Yougan Tamang said, “The consistent exodus of prominent figures from the SDF to SKM over several months underscores a loss of faith in the leadership of the SDF. It reflects a growing belief among the citizens of Sikkim that SKM is the party capable of driving the state towards progressive development.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister and SKM President Prem Singh Tamang warmly welcomed the new members, expressing his happiness in incorporating them into the SKM team with the goal of cultivating a ‘Sunowlo Sikkim and Samriddha Sikkim’.

Tilu Gurung had contested and won the Namthang Rateypani assembly constituency twice in 2009 and 2014. During the period, she served as Minister of Building and Housing.
In the 2019 assembly elections, she did not get a party ticket to contest the election.
Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
