Health Education Officer Sonam Bhutia has said that the number of COVID cases has increased in Sikkim, but the number of people coming for testing has been low.

Due to the low number of people coming for testing, the positivity rate is high. He further stated that the positivity rate will decrease automatically as more people come for testing.

Talking about the vaccination status in the 15 to 18 age group, the health education officer said that a total of 25,286 people have been vaccinated so far, the drive for which started on January 3rd, 2022 in the state.

According to reports, the state has started a precautionary dose for COVID-19 for front line warriors, health care workers, and people aged 60 and older with co-morbid conditions as of January 10th, 2022.

The Health Education Officer, Sonam Bhutia, stated that so far, 13702 people have taken the precautionary or booster dose for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the latest COVID figures, as per the daily bulletin from the Health Department, Sikkim, recorded 323 Corona infections from the 1223 samples tested yesterday. The state’s COVID positivity rate stands at 26.4%.
