Sikkim CM’s Son Aditya Golay Emerges as Strong Contender for Soreng-Chakhung Seat in Upcoming By-Elections

Sikkim is gearing up for by-elections in two key constituencies, Soreng-Chakhung and Namchi-Singithang scheduled for November 13.
Aditya Golay, son of Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has emerged as a strong contender in the Soreng-Chakhung constituency. Aditya, who previously served as the MLA from 2019 to 2024, had to step down earlier this year when his father contested the general elections from the same constituency. Tamang won from both Soreng-Chakhung and Rhenock, ultimately vacating the Soreng-Chakhung seat to continue representing Rhenock.
Sikkim is gearing up for by-elections in two key constituencies, Soreng-Chakhung and Namchi-Singithang scheduled for November 13. Political parties are ramping up their campaigns as the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Party has already formed a committee to strategize for the polls.
With the by-election approaching, there is growing pressure from the local electorate for Aditya Golay’s return to the Assembly, as he enjoys considerable support in the constituency.
In the Namchi-Singithang constituency, two senior SKM leaders are competing for the party’s ticket. Satish Chandra Rai, a seasoned politician with substantial influence, and Ganesh Rai, the Chairman of the Namchi Municipal Corporation, are both in the running, each backed by strong support bases.
While the opposition Citizen Action Party has confirmed its participation in the by-elections, other opposition groups, including the Sikkim Democratic Front and BJP, have yet to announce their plans for contesting. As the election date nears, all eyes are on the evolving political landscape in these two crucial constituencies.
