Sedition accused Shaheen Bagh protest organiser Sharjeel Imam, who is currently in the custody of the Assam police, will arrive in Guwahati on Thursday.

A team of Assam Police took custody of Imam and have left for Guwahati by train on Tuesday from New Delhi around 11 pm.

The JNU scholar landed into a major controversy over a contentious remark, where he stated that Assam should be cut off from mainland India.

Earlier, a team of Assam Police had left for Delhi to take Iman into custody and he was handed over to a team of Assam police by Patiala House Court on the production of warrant.

Sharjeel Imam, an activist, has been booked under several cases for allegedly delivering inflammatory speeches against Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens.

It needs to be mentioned that Multiple FIRs have been registered and sedition charges have been slapped on Sharjeel for his alleged remarks.
