In what might come as a jolt to the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), former Sikkim Forest Minister and senior SDF leader Tshering Wangdi Lepcha is all set to quit the party and join the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) soon.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Lepcha said that he has already informed about his decision to SDF President Pawan Chamling and has also met with SKM president and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Interesting to note that, Lepcha, who once used to strongly oppose and criticise the SKM party and Chief Minister Tamang, today said that there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies in politics.

He said that he wants to move on and serve the people.

Though he is all set to join SKM, Lepcha trained his guns at SKM MLA of Gnathang Machong constituency, Pamin Lepcha and her father, Rajya Sabha MP, DT Lepcha.

He said, “I once believed that Pamin Lepcha was an honest and straightforward, but now I realized that she is also following the footsteps of his father, DT Lepcha.”

Lepcha accused Pamin Lepcha and DT Lepcha of torturing and victimising the people of Gnathang Machong constituency. He said that he has already informed Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang about the matter.

On Wednesday, Lepcha met and interacted with Sikkim CM in a programme organised by the Former Legislators Federation of Sikkim.

Tshering Wangdi was the SDF candidate from Gnathang-Machong in the 2024 Assembly election where he lost to the SKM candidate.

He was a SDF MLA from Lachen-Mangan constituency for two terms during which he also served as the Forest Minister.
