S Toiho Yeptho elected as Deputy Speaker of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly unopposed

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA S Toiho Yeptho has been elected the new Deputy Speaker of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) today. This was announced by Speaker of the House Sharingain Longkumer.

The election to the post was held today, the first day of the Budget Session of Nagaland Assembly. However, Yeptho was the only candidate to have filed a nomination for the post. Therefore, he has been unanimously elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the House.

The post was vacant since the formation of the new House in March.

Congratulating Yeptho on becoming the new Deputy Speaker, Chief Minister Rio took to X and wrote, “Congratulations and best wishes to Shri S. @ToihoYeptho on being unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 14th NLA. I am confident that with his vast experience in public service, he will execute his duties in his new office as a good and efficient Deputy Speaker.”

CM Rio further assured his unwavering support and collaboration in carrying out his constitutionally mandated role as the House’s Deputy Speaker.

National General Secretary of NCP, Sunil Tatkare too congratulated Yeptho and wrote on X,”Heartiest Congratulations to S Toiho Yeptho on being elected unopposed as the deputy speaker of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly! Best wishes.”

Yeptho thanked CM Rio and others for electing him as the Deputy Speaker and sought support from the Speaker’s and the members to carry out his responsibilities to the best of his abilities and in accordance with the members’ trust and confidence.
