Rajya Sabha MP, Rakesh Sinha, visited the famous Kongthong village in Meghalaya, popularly known as the Whistling village on Tuesday. The MP during his visit, stressed on the need for proper connectivity to the village in a bid to promote tourism, as well as preserve the unique tradition of the inhabitants.
Sinha who also met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, informed that the Chief Minister has already sanctioned Rs.1 Crore from the Kongthong tourism development fund for the construction of a road connecting Kongthong to Shillong.
Sinha also termed Kongthong as far better than Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir in terms of beauty for the Bollywood film Industry. He also informed that he will approach the film industry to visit the place. Meanwhile he also suggested the need for research and studies on the village and stressed on the need for a museum.
It needs to be mentioned here that Kongthong village in Meghalaya is one of the few places on the planet where people whistle to communicate. The village had recently earned the title of the best tourist village from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
