Over 200 supporters of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations or CoMSO staged protest outside the State Secretariat in Shillong on Friday.

Upset over the delay in implementation of the Inner Line Permit, CoMSO members and supporters led by general secretary Roykupar Synrem staged demonstration outside the Secretariat bringing traffic in the busy area to a standstill for some time.

Speaking to mediapersons, CoMSO secretary pointed out that even after a wait of over a year there has still been no commitment by the Centre on the implementation of ILP.

The CoMSO general secretary warned that the protest was just a trailer and if the State government did not take the ILP issue seriously, they won’t shy away from even shutting down the secretariat.

It may be mentioned that pressure groups like the CoMSO and KSU have already criticized the delay in the imposition of ILP even as they slammed the Centre’s silence on the issue.

The pressure groups have also taken exception to delay in Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state to finalize the ILP issue. As per the state government, Shah was slated to visit Shillong in March to discuss the ILP issue.

With ILP lingering again, the CoMSO has finally decided to resume agitation and if today’s demonstration  outside the state secretariat are an indication of things to come, the Conrad Sangma led government will once again have its task cut out in  handling the situation.
