MLA Krishnendu Paul urged the DFO to carry out a survey of the people coming from outside to track the illegal Bangaldeshis and Rohingyas entering the area

In serious allegations levelled by Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, the MLA has said that Bangladeshis and Rohingyas have occupied protected forest areas at Patharkandi in Assam’s Karimganj district.

Paul said that 45 percent of Patharkandi’s total land is reserved forest land, out of which many of the areas have already been occupied by suspected illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.

An emergency meeting was called on Thursday by MLA Krishnendu Paul with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and senior forest officials.

The MLA alleged that the illegal encroachment was planned by those illegal migrants to enter through Tripura and capture the reserved forests.

The MLA has ordered the earliest eviction of illegal citizens.

He held the forest department officials accountable for the encroachment of forest areas by illegal encroachers.

Paul also urged the DFO to carry out a survey on the people coming from outside to track the illegal Bangaldeshis and Rohingyas entering the area.

MLA Krishnendu Paul stated that he will inform Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya about the dire situation in this regard.

He has also informed Dharmapur MLA Chandra Mohan Patowary on this issue and asked him to visit the site and send a team.

“If this continues, there will be a time when there will be no forest land,” he added.
