Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has rubbished speculations of rise power tariffs leading to higher electricity bills.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that there has been no hike in power tariff but instances of unreasonable bill amount have been reported due to faulty readings in few smart meters.
Chief Minister Sarma also instructed to urgently fix the faulty smart meters and address the grievances of public.
It may be mentioned here that few consumers were in for a shock when they noticed a substantial and unwarranted rise in their electricity bills.
As such, angry residents took to the streets and voiced their resentment towards the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) in this regard.
Earlier, Assam Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa informed that an enquiry committee will be constituted to probe the matter.
On the other hand the ASEB has issued a clarification on the matter saying that the rise in electricity bills is due to the scorching heat that was witnessed in Assam in the months of July and August.
