One rhino has been killed by poachers in the world-famous Kaziranga National Park. The incident reportedly happened late last night when poachers killed the rhino and made off with its horn.
The rhino was killed near the forest camp at Silekhunda in the Kohora range of the national park. Meanwhile, the forest department has initiated an investigation into the incident. This is the first instance of rhino killing in the Kaziranga National Park this year.
It is to be noted that instances of rhino killings have gone down drastically in the previous year, with a report of only one rhino being killed by poachers.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also highlighted the fact that rhino killings in Kaziranga had gone down drastically.
Notably, Kevin Pietersen, former captain of the England cricket team, yesterday, lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the authorities concerned for initiatives towards the conservation of animals in India.
Sharing a tweet that instances of rhino poaching are at a 21-year low, the former England skipper also applauded the efforts of all those people who sacrifice their lives to protect animals in the country.
