In an extraordinary gesture towards Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on his birthday today, renowned Assam swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika swam non-stop for 15 hours in the mighty Brahmaputra River, setting a new record and dedicating it to him.
The historic swim began at 9 PM on December 31 and concluded at 12 PM on February 1.
Hazarika’s achievement was officially recognised by the Assam Book of Records, solidifying his status as a trailblazer in Assam’s swimming community. Months of rigorous training in the Brahmaputra prepared him for this remarkable feat, making it the longest swim of his career.
“I thought it would be impossible, but I’ve done it,” he shared, reflecting on his journey.
His accomplishment is a testament to perseverance and determination, inspiring aspiring athletes to push their limits. This milestone not only cements Hazarika’s legacy but also brings pride to Assam, motivating many to dream big and achieve the impossible.
