BJP has kickstarted a high-profile campaign in poll-bound Manipur today with top party leaders drumming up support for the candidates of the Saffron party.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is in poll bound Manipur, attended a flag hoisting ceremony for Singjamei party candidate Y Khemchand Singh, also the speaker of the Manipur Assembly.

Notably, this is the first visit of the Raksha Mantri ahead of the polls in Manipur.

Speaking to the media during his visit, the Defence Minister said that Manipur will be Congress-mukt post elections as the relevance of the grand old party has been lost. He added that the BJP does not see the Congress as a political force.

He further added that the militancy and insurgency in Manipur are almost over under the Chief Minister N Biren Singh-led BJP government in the state.

The defence minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special focus on the development of the Northeast. Rajnath Singh highlighted that the Prime Minister has time and again ensured development schemes reach this part of the nation.
