Massive protests erupted in the Chin State of Myanmar following the death of a female teacher in the area. The teacher, identified as Dim Lun Mang, was allegedly shot dead on November 17.

According to reports, the accused identified as Binod, shot Dim Lun and she succumbed to her injury before reaching hospital.

Binod allegedly shot the teacher over her denial to hand over his daughter to him, who was reportedly kept in the teacher’s custody by the accused’s wife.

Binod’s wife handed over her 16-year-old daughter to Dim Lun Mang for her education as Binod being a jobless and drunkard could not facilitate a proper education to his daughter.

Binod shot dead Dim Lun with a 12 bore gun and fled the scene. It is now being alleged that Binod has taken shelter in Churachandpur district of Manipur in India, along with his Indian father and Myanmarese mother.

Protests demanding justice have gained momentum in the neighbouring country with the Zomi Students’ and Youth Organisation taking out a massive protest rally.

The Zomi Civil Society organisations in Myanmar, meanwhile, submitted a statement to the Myanmar Government asking it not to allow armed rebel groups of Manipur to operate from the Chin State.
