President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates, lays foundations of various devp projects in Meghalaya

President Droupadi Murmu today virtually inaugurated and laid foundation stones of a slew of development projects in Meghalaya.

On the second day of her visit to the state, President Murmu inaugurated the upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road.

Besides, she also laid the foundation stones for Shillong Peak Ropeway and tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot and Kudengrim.

President Murmu expressed hope and confidence that these projects will improve connectivity and will enable Meghalaya to move ahead on the path of sustainable and inclusive development.

Addressing the public at a programme in Mawphlang, the President appreciated the community participation in preservation of Mawphlang secured forest which is a treasure house of biodiversity.

She stated that tribal lifestyle contributes to the promotion of national goals of bio-diversity conservation and maintaining the ecological balance.

She also highlighted the role of women in conservation and climate action efforts.

“Women in tribal societies have been showing the way in protecting the environment and sharing their wisdom and skills to enhance adaptation and mitigation. By increasing the participation of women in climate initiatives and decision-making processes, more can be done for effective climate action and bio-diversity conservation,” said the President.

She also said, “I am happy to know that Meghalaya has been making a determined effort to emerge as a model state and offering a balanced approach to modernity and tradition.”
