Good news for all those Sikkim Government employees planning to have children. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced that his government will grant 12-month maternity leave and 1-month paternity to all state government employees.

During the gathering of the Sikkim State Civil Service Officers’ Association, Tamang on Wednesday revealed the government’s plan to introduce a significant enhancement in leave benefits for its employees.

The leave will grant male employees 1-month leave to support their spouses during childbirth and assist in early childcare, the Chief Minister said.

Tamang also added that necessary modifications will be made to the existing service rules.

These changes will be implemented promptly to ensure that eligible government employees can avail of the new leave policies without any delay.

Tamang further added that the details will be notified soon.

As per Maternity Benefit Act 1961, a working woman is entitled to 6 months, or 26 weeks, of paid maternity leave.

The CM also congratulated all new IAS and SCS (Sikkim Civil Services) officers, and wished them well for a successful career.

The CM said the officers are the backbone of the state administration, contributing significantly to the growth and development of Sikkim and its people.

A significant focus on streamlining the promotion process for civil services officers, leading to an increase in the number of promotions, he added.
