Pragya Debbarma set to contest from East seat: Sources

First Published: 12th March, 2024 17:03 IST

Pragya Debbarma’s candidature would mean that sitting MP Rebati Tripura will not get ticket this time from the BJP.

In a political masterstroke, the Tipra Motha appears to have succeeded in fielding the candidate of its choice for the Tripura East parliamentary seat.

Well informed sources said that Motha founder and Royal Scion Pradyot Debbarma’s sister Pragya Debbarma is set to be the candidate for the Tripura east constituency.

However, in what looks like a quid pro quo, Pragya is expected to contest on a BJP ticket, with the saffron party not pushing for a candidate from within its party ranks.

Sources added that Pradyot Debbarma, who is in Delhi, is understood to have met Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday and is likely to meet the HM again today and the BJP is likely to announce the candidate tonight.

It may be mentioned that Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma has of late maintained that it was important to send the right candidate to Delhi.

Pragya Debbarma’s candidature would mean that sitting MP Rebati Tripura will not get ticket this time from the BJP.
