In a bizarre incident reported from Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills, a teenager attempted to commit suicide by climbing onto a high-tension electric post at her village but she survived unscathed as there was power outage in the area.

Most villages in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills often encounter long hours of power cuts, but this is probably the first time that a life was saved due to the outage.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Monday morning after an argument between the girl and her parents. After her parents rebuked the girl for her behavior towards elders, the angry teenager stormed out of her house and attempted suicide by climbing the pole.

The flustered girl was later counselled by her family members and taken back home.

Some villagers also claimed that they tried their best to contact Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) authorities, but they never responded.

While many villagers were thankful that the girl’s life was saved, others lamented about their plight as long power cuts have now become a part of their lives.
