A rally, which was taken out by the Students’ Parents’ body in Imphal, took an ugly turn upon reaching the University as there was a stand-off between the student protestors of the University and the members of the Parents’ body.

The situation heated up as there was exchange of slogans from both the groups. Security forces had a tough time in bringing the volatile situation under control.

Significantly, the Manipur University Students’ Union is crying foul over the entire episode saying that the students’ parents body rally in Imphal was backed and funded by the ruling BJP.

MUSU general secretary Leishram Kennedy Singh further alleged that the BJP is trying to derail the peaceful agitation by the students and teachers.

However, the parents’ body, which took out the massive rally across Imphal, said that their main demand is to put an end to the 68-day shutdown of the Manipur University by various students and teachers organisation for the sake of the students’ future.

Meanwhile, rubbishing MUSU charges, the BJP said it has got nothing to do with the rally taken out by the students’ parents’ body.

BJP spokesperson S Tiken Singh also termed the MUSU charge as politically motivated and said the parents’ body had taken out a rally to express their frustration over the entire Manipur University impasse which is threatening to jeopardise the career of students.
