In order to put a check to the growing number of crimes against women in Kamrup Metro, police will work closely with civic groups to make women more aware and vigilant and also to help them with legal proceedings in order to curb the rising number of crimes against women.
This was informed following a meeting between the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati along with Special DGP Kuladhar Saikia, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Virendra Mittal, several senior police officers and Civil Society members, Senior Citizens and other bodies to discuss measures to control the rising number of crimes against women. Several suggestions were also exchanged during the conference between the Police and the various civil bodies in Guwahati today.
Special DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that once fast track courts are set up in each district charge sheets can filed at the earliest and speedy justice can be delivered. He also went on to say that senior police officers have been directed to oversee the cases related to crime against women.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal said that the Director of Schools in the State have been asked to introduce value and self defence classes in collaboration with NGO’s. The state government will provide logistics for such classes, he said.
