Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone of Dhubri – Phulbari bridge on Thursday to improve connectivity in the region and to make the state’s communication system more dynamic.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will also be present on the occasion.
At a length of 19.282 km, the country’s longest four-lane bridge will facilitate travel between Assam and Meghalaya. The construction of the bridge is expected to be complete by September 2026.
The bridge will be built at a total cost of around Rs 4,997 crores. It will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari, Tura, Rongram and Rongjeng in Meghalaya. The proposed bridge will drastically reduce the distance traveled between the two regions.
It is to be noted that on February 26, 2019, the Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the construction of the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge over the Brahmaputra river.
A public meeting has been organized at Adabari in Dhubri on February 16 in line with the groundbreaking program of the laying foundation stone of the bridge to be set up by Prime Minister Modi through virtual media.
