Prime Minister Narendra Modi today tore into the opposition slamming it for spreading misinformation on the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Addressing a massive rally at Changsari in Guwahati, Modi attacked opposition parties allegedly misleading the people of Assam over the bill issue.

PM Modi assured that his government stands firmly committed to secure the rights, tradition, culture and resources of the indigenous people of Assam and Northeast as a whole.

Taking a dig at those accusing the BJP of playing vote-bank politics, Modi said the BJP’s fight is against those actually doing vote-bank politics.

He also allayed fears of the people of the state saying that citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries only after a detailed verification and go ahead form the state government.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated several projects including the 6-lane bridge project over the Brahmaputra connecting North Guwahati with Guwahati, besides laying the foundation stone of North East Gas Grid which will ensure uninterrupted availability of natural gas across the region and boost industrial growth in the region.

The PM also laid foundation stone of City Gas Distribution Networks in Kamrup, Cacher, Hailakandi & Karimganj districts besides inaugurating the Hollong Modular Gas Processing Plant in Tinsukia.
