A fun-filled picnic turned into a tragedy when an 18-year-old boy, Anish Chetry, drowned in the Kopili River at Panimur yesterday. He had gone for a picnic with a group of eight friends from Hawaipur Dikhelem village when the accident occurred around noon.

Anish accidentally slipped and fell into the river, prompting his friends to alert his family. His family members rushed to the scene and immediately informed the Jirikindeng police station. The police swiftly contacted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for assistance.

By the time the SDRF team reached the site, night had already fallen, making search operations challenging. The rescue operation is set to start this morning to locate Anish’s body.
