Rymbui, added that tried and tested veteran politician Robertjune Kharjahrin is the ideal candidate for the UDP-led Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat
Meghalaya’s United Democratic Party’s (UDP) leader Lakhmen Rymbui, on Wednesday, said that people of Shillong voting for the Congress candidate in Lok Sabha polls is a thing of the past and what will happen in the upcoming elections is up to the people.
Speaking to media, Rymbui said, “We cannot deny that for the last few elections people of Shillong has been voting for the Congress candidate but that is in the past. What will happen in the coming election will be decided by the people.”
It may be noted that the Congress has won the Shillong Parliamentary seat for the last 26 years, which is six terms from 1998.
Rymbui, added that tried and tested veteran politician Robertjune Kharjahrin is the ideal candidate for the UDP-led Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
Rymbui said, “We from the RDA have decided to field Robertjune Kharjahrin (for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat) as we believe he is the best candidate, as he is a tried and tested politician for the last 10-15 years.”
He said that ultimately voters are the one who will decide the victors and every party will choose candidates who they believe has the best chance of winning.
“Every party selects their candidates with full belief that their candidate is the best but it is up to the people who will elect, who will choose. We, as a party, will work together to ensure that the candidate from the RDA, who will be contesting under the UDP symbol, will win,” he added.
He expressed confidence that the Voice of People Party will not play spoil-sport to the RDA’s chances in the upcoming polls.
The RDA is an alliance of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP). UDP has 12 MLAs and HSPDP has only 2 MLAs in the Meghalaya Assembly.
