A woman of Pakistani descent was detained in Bihar on Tuesday while attempting to enter Nepal with a US passport, as reported by the police.

Inam ul Haq Mengoo, the superintendent of police in Kishanganj, claims that the woman was detained at Galgalia in the district while attempting to enter the neighbouring nation without proper documentation.

According to the SP, the woman carried a US passport having a name Farida Mallik in it and it showed her to be a resident of California.

Further investigations revealed that she was born in Pakistan but acquired US citizenship later.

The woman was detained at the Mahila Thana in the neighbourhood for questioning after being arrested by a joint team of local police and the Sashastra Seema Bal.

She admitted that she had made several trips from the US to Nepal via India. During one of these trips, she was apprehended by the SSB in Uttarakhand and imprisoned for 11 months before being deported back to the US.

As per report, the police informed the Foreigners’ Branch of Union Home Ministry besides US Consulate General at Kolkata. A case may be registered against the woman under the Passports Act if documents in her possession were found to be fake.
