Over 30 Hours, No Trace of Veteran Assamese Music Composer Ramen Baruah, Singer Zubeen Garg Joins Search Ops

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was deeply concerned about the sudden disappearance of Baruah.

Over 30 hours have passed by, yet there is no trace of renowned veteran Assamese music composer Ramen Baruah, 84, who went missing from near his residence in Guwahati’s Latasil.

Baruah left his house on Monday morning for a nearby temple and did not return till late evening, following which his family informed the police.

As per inputs, Baruah was last near the Gauhati High Court. The CCTV footage obtained from the camera behind the High Court premises show Baruah walking on the road clad in white kurta and pyjama at 10:15 am on Monday.

His mobile phone has been switched off since then.

Police in the meantime, have launched a massive search for the Assamese music legend, but no trace of Baruah yet.

The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have launched a search and rescue operation in the Brahmaputra River, which is close to the locality from where Baruah went missing.

Noted singer Zubeen Garg joined the ongoing search. Zubeen, along with some of his companions and some police personnel, went out in the areas of Lachit Ghat, Kamakhya Temple, Sukleswar, Bhootnath and Uzan Bazaar during the night looking for the veteran musician.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was deeply concerned about the sudden disappearance of Baruah.

“His absence worries his family, friends, and countless admirers. I have asked Commissioner of @GuwahatiPol Sri Diganta Bora to mobilize all resources and take swift action to locate him,” Sarma posted on X.

A radio artiste of fame, Baruah has composed music for several Assamese films, including Dr Bezbarua, Baruar Sangsar, Mukuta, Lalita, Kokadeuta, Nati Aru Hati.
