Over 20 NIT students fall ill after eating momos in Assam’s Silchar

Instructions have also been given to the food stalls situated inside the campus to maintain the necessary hygiene.
At least 20 students of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar fell ill, nine of them had to be hospitalised, after eating momos from a stall outside the campus in Assam’s Cachar district.
Soon after the issue was brought to the notice of NIT authorities, the affected students were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and a private hospital.
NIT registrar KL Baishnab informed that they have already apprised the District Health Department of the matter.
“Nine students were severely affected mainly due to food poisoning and had to be hospitalised. Some of the students have already been released in the meantime. We informed the District Health Department and the team of Food Safety officials reached, inspected and collected samples from the concerned momo shop and also other eateries outside the campus which would be sent for laboratory test”, Baishnab said.
Instructions have been given to the food stalls situated inside the campus to maintain the necessary hygiene and quality of food.
KL Baishnab further informed that the students are recovering and they will be released soon.
