Nagaland Minister and senior BJP leader Temjen Imna Along made it clear today that the state government will ensure that the infamous December 2021 Oting Killing case reaches its logical conclusion.
In an unprecedented move, the Nagaland government has moved the Supreme Court seeking sanction to prosecute 30 Army personnel accused of killing as many as 13 civilians during a botched up operation in December 2021.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live on the issue, Along who is also the Nagaland government spokesperson said that the Oting incident was a gross violation of human rights and the state govt as a protector of the interests of its people had decided to refer the matter to SC for justice for the victims.
In its plea to the Supreme Court, the Nagaland government has challenged the Centre’s refusal to grant sanction for prosecuting the personnel. It may be mentioned that a sanction for prosecution from the Centre is required to initiate proceedings against security forces for their actions while carrying out duties in areas under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. So it will be interesting to see what will be the Centre’s response to the notice issued by the Apex court in connection with the Nagaland government plea.
Meanwhile, the Konyak Union has thanked the Nagaland government for moving the Supreme Court on the tragic Oting killings.
