The NSCN-IM on Monday demanded the direct intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for resumption of the official dialogue on Naga peace and to take the Framework Agreement to a logical conclusion.
The NSCN-IM urged PM Modi to appoint his representatives to take forward the political dialogue with the group. The NSCN-IM statement comes on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the signing of the Framework Agreement in New Delhi between the Government of India and the rebel group.
A lengthy NSCN-IM statement cites history to claim that the Nagas had not surrendered their sovereignty nor decided to join the Indian Union. The statement also added that the question of the Nagas having accepted the Indian constitution also does not arise.
The NSCN-IM said that the Framework Agreement is the best formula to establish new relationship for peaceful coexistence of the two entities on the basis of shared sovereignty.
The statement goes on to add that a separate Naga flag and constitution is a must for protecting the political identity of the Nagas.
