The fallout effect of the NRC draft publication in Assam is having its effect in neighbouring Mizoram.

The Mizo Students Union has increased vigil at checkpoints along the border with Assam and has been vigorously checking the documents and papers of people travelling from Assam to Mizoram.

So stringent has been the checkings by the Mizo Students Union that many people have complained of undue harassment in this regard.

A large number of people staged a protest at the Assam-Mizoram inter-state border at Assam’s Hailakandi district. Protestors have stopped all vehicles going to Mizoram and even those trucks carrying essential commodities to the neighbouring state.

This prompted police personnel from both Assam and Mizoram to hold a meeting at the Ramnathpur police station near the border.

Later, the protestors were calmed down when Mizoram Police assured them of no further harassment in the name of document checking.
